Smith wesson model 19 serial numbers3/9/2024 Why did you state your belief that K 3439xx is not the serial number? Is there a different number on the bottom of the grip or is the number missing there? You can usually get the ship date down to a month/year by calling S&W. The Serial may be stamped inside the barrel ejector rod housing, on the back end of the cylinder, and/or under the swing-out yoke but on the bottom of the butt is the REAL SERIAL NUMBER S&W did not ship in Serial Number order thus finding the exact ship date would require a $50 letter from Roy Jinks the S&W Historian. Your serial of K3439xx Should be a late 1958 gun and if model stamped should be a Model 19 without a dash number. Serial Numbers are found on the bottom of the butt of the revolvers. The Model 19 was discontinued around 1999. The series started in 1955 with the Serial Number around K 260001 and continued with the K as the first digit until around 1970 when K999999 was reached and the factory then started placing the K within the digits ie 1K00001, 2K00001, up to 311K273 around 1983 when S&W started using the 3-letter, 4-digit Serial Number system (ie ABC1234) for all their guns. They were introduced in 1955 and in 1957 S&W started using the Model designation Model 19. 3", 4", (5" rare), or 6" barrel with shrouded ejector housing but the vast majority were 4". 357 Magnum is built on a slightly larger K frame with adjustable sights and could have a 2 1/2".
